THE PHILADELPHIA SKETCH CLUB PRESS RELEASE
The Philadelphia Sketch Club presents the ABSOLUTELY ABSTRACT 2010 Exhibition at its historic center city location from August 27 through September 18, 2010. This show will present a variety of visual sensations through non-representational and suggestive subject matter in various two dimensional mediums. The diversity of the works produces an explosion of color and form that intrigues even the casual viewer. An Artists’ Reception will be held on Sunday, September 12, from 2 to 4 PM. Gallery hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 PM. Admission is free. The Sketch Club is located at 235 S. Camac St., between 12th & 13th and Locust and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia, PA. For information call (215) 545-9298 or visit www.sketchclub.org. Jurors for this exhibition are David Foss and Michael Gallagher, both well known abstract artists. Both Jurors will be showing an example of their work in the exhibition.
Founded in 1860, the Philadelphia Sketch Club is America’s oldest artists club. Interest in abstract works has existed there since the early twentieth century. Past members who gained recognition for their abstract works include Lyman Sayen and Hugh Breckenridge. This juried exhibition is open to all artists with the Jurors selecting the works to be exhibited and the award winners. As is the Club’s tradition, the Jurors will also exhibit an example of their paintings.
Starting in September an exhibition of paintings by Margaret Leiby will also be on display in the Club's first floor gallery.
