142 nd Annual Exhibition of Small Oil Paintings

From March 6 through March 27, the Philadelphia Sketch Club will host the 142 nd Annual Exhibition of Small Oil Paintings at its historic center city facility. A free reception, open to the public, will be held on Sunday, March 6 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.

The origins of this historic exhibition date back to 1865 when the PSC held its first painting competition at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The grand prize offered was $2,000; quite a sum for that time in history which almost bankrupted the club! Though the amount of the first prize is currently set at $500, the Small Oil Painting exhibition still attracts entries from artists of all levels who live throughout the tri-state region and areas beyond. It is juried by three professional artists, some of who also teach at area art schools. This year's jurors include Al Gury, Rebecca Rutstein, and James Groody.

The Philadelphia Sketch Club is an active regional arts organization that holds workshops, exhibitions, and a permanent collection of American Art from the late 19 th and 20 th centuries, and provides a supportive and nurturing atmosphere to artists of all skill levels.

Located at 235 South Camac Street (between 12 th and 13 th , Locust and Spruce), the Philadelphia Sketch Club is conveniently situated and accessible by many public transportation routes. Regular gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00.

Support for this exhibition was made possible by Frame Fit Company, Newman Galleries, Daler-Rowney, LA Weight Loss Centers, Arcadia Foundation, William Penn Foundation, Philadelphia Cultural Fund, our membership and patrons, and the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts, the regional arts funding partnership of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency.
