Serving together on the Board of Directors and drawing regularly from life within America’s oldest club for artists, PJ Smalley and Victor Evdokimov present a
thought-provoking exhibition exploring the passage of time.
The show’s title, “It’s Later
Than You Think,” is a modern memento mori, contrasting ephemeral internet culture
with the slow practice of life drawing.
While Evdokimov’s expressive figure drawing depict live models in observed moments of physical reality, Smalley bridges the gap between tradition and modern chaos by turning ephemeral glitches and niche memes
into graphite meditations.
The artists’ dedication to the Philadelphia Sketch Club spans both the artistic and the
administrative. Utilizing his background as a software engineer, Evdokimov contributes
to the board as the chair of the Technology Committee, while Smalley’s career in art and
cultural heritage preservation informs his role as a Director and co-chair of the Library
and Special Collections Committee. When they are not drawing or volunteering, the two
close friends can be found at the clubhouse shooting pool or relaxing in the backyard
